Mayo 2018 and IMWG2020 Scores Useful for Stratifying Smoldering Multiple Myeloma Post-Diagnosis

IMWG2020 and Mayo 2018 prognostication models are routinely used at the time of diagnosis of smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM). However, their role in risk stratification of patients following diagnosis is not known.

Visram and colleagues retrospectively analyzed data from 704 patients with SMM diagnosed between January 2000 and January 2020. Serial laboratory and pathology data was collected, and IMWG2020 and Mayo 2018 scores were re-applied annually for 5 years following diagnosis.

The prognostic models were found to reliably stratify patients based on progression risk following diagnosis, as patients who moved into a higher risk category were found to have increased risk of progression.
