International Myeloma Working Group Frailty Score Applicable to Patients with Relapsed Refractory Multiple Myeloma

Although the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) Frailty Score has been validated for use in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM), its ability to detect distinct patient-reported health-related quality of life profiles for patients with relapsed refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) has not been studied.

This international, prospective, observational study enrolled 365 patients with RRMM from 30 centers. Researchers compared scores on other validated questionnaires to the results of IMWG frailty score, which classified patients as fit, intermediate-fit, or frail. Correlation was found between a majority of the scales, with those who were classified as fit or intermediate-fit on the IMWG frailty score reporting improved functional status and lower symptom burden on other scales compared to those who were classified as frail.
